The Chimbacalle train station comes first in contest to name the “Seven Wonders of Quito”

New York/Quito – The Chimbacalle train station has taken first place in a contest to name the “Seven Wonders of Quito”. Nearly 14,000 people from all over Ecuador cast votes from April to July 2011 to choose their seven favorites from a list of 36 attractions in Quito. The contest took place as part of the festivities surrounding Quito’s nomination as American Capital of Culture 2011. The seven winners will enjoy special promotion by the International Bureau of Cultural Capitals on its website www.cac-acc.org. Places two to seven in the ranking went to the impressive Church of La Compañía de Jesús, the Plaza de San Francisco (including the cathedral and the convent), the parish of El Quinche, the Basilica of the National Vote, the Plaza de la Independencia and the statue of the Virgin Mary on Mount Panecillo.
